| Customer Reviews: A Must-Read March 8, 2009 Reader (Boulder, CO) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Those women who appear to have it all, success in their careers as well as their home lives, do so because they have developed strategies for making this happen. Outsourcing, integrating work and family time and eliminating cluttering activities, for example. In this book, the authors and their interviewees share many examples and personal experiences in a straightforward and entertaining read. Interestingly, the strategies are consistent across cultures. This is a must read for women with families who are at the top or who aspire to be there in the future.
"Women At The Top" not only for women at the top April 3, 2009 Kitty (Hong Kong) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We seldom have chance to look from behind the brightest women from all over the world. They are so brilliant in their own profession that we nearly forget their role in their own families, which also means so much to them. Their experience sharing throws light on those who strive for excellence in their profession and at the same time cherish so much their own families. The live cases demonstrate that women can be successful in both of the roles without sacrificing either one. They also demonstrate their road moving forward to success by overcoming the difficulties, obstacles and conflicts, which is not an easy task. The book is no doubt encouraging and inspiring to those working mothers, who may not be the women at the top, but who feel tired, wearisome and even guilty in the course to a dually successful life. It is an energy charger.
A Must Read for Every Woman! December 23, 2008 Reader (New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book examines the lives of about 60 women at the top of their professions, from chief executives at big corporations such as Old Navy/Gap and IBM, to chiefs of police, and even the Prime Minister of Canada and shows the strategies they used to balance work and life.
It was inspiring to read the stories of women from across the globe, particularly the incredible stories of women in China and Hong Kong. Plus the stories from American women such as Valerie Staub (ABC TV) and Sharon Allen (Deloitte & Touche) hit very close to home. In today's world, the message seems to be women can't have it all. This book illustrates how women can create meaningful home and work lives. It will give any woman encouragement and empowerment in her struggle to be dually successful. I learned a lot from this book. Did you know that in some states it is still legal to discriminate against mothers in hiring? Did you know that companies with more women at top management levels perform better? Do you know what the esential first step is in taking control of your time? Read this book and find the answers to successfully combining work and family.
Women at the Top Belongs There March 9, 2009 Sheldon (Los Angeles) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A wonderful book. Manages to weave intensely interesting personal life stories with academic research. The reader learns not only how well-known women leaders were able to integrate work and family life but also how their approaches can be understood by reference to the work and family literature. Finally, a "self improvement" book that is research based and a page turner. The cross cultural comparisons are fascinating. Don't miss it.
